Do-it-yourself Installation of Truck Steps

Posted by admin on September 6th, 2011

If you are planning to install a set of step bars to your vehicle, truth is, you will need a helping hand. Sure, these truck accessories are easy to install to your vehicle but still, you need someone to help you hold it in place while you attach the screws and pick up the battery operated screw driver to tightly put it in place. But how do you entice your friends to just help you without offering something in return? The answer is simple, food!

Ask your friends over for a picnic or a barbeque with pack of some good old beer. Then mention that you plan on sprucing up your ride by installing truck steps. Chances are, they’re going to offer a hand in helping out with your project and you don’t even need to ask them for it.

You don’t have to fret over installing a set of running board on your truck because it is just simple to install. First thing you need to do is buy the side step design of your choice and make sure that what you purchase includes a complete set with all the accessories, bolts and nuts in the package. You have to check this or else you’ll be having problems once you get home. You can also ask for a demo or explanation from the seller of the accessories on how you should go about with installing the step bars. Once you get home, prepare the things and tools you are going to use for the installation process. For this you’ll probably need an electric screw driver, clamp and a buddy to help you.

Open the side step package and do not unpack each and every item like the screws and bolts as they might get mixed and you’ll be confused as can be. And remember this very important tip, read the installation instructions first! If you don’t read through the instructions, you might install the side steps in a wrong way and it may not be as sturdy as it should be. Once you’ve read the manual, you can start to line up the mounting brackets on the holes of the frame of your vehicle. Place each bolt and nut on every hole as required by the installation instruction.

If your truck or SUV does not have factory drilled holes on its frame, you will need to drill these by yourself. You can refer to the installation instructions again. After setting the mounting brackets firmly anchored to the frames, connect the truck steps to the brackets and align them to the cab. Fasten all the brackets tightly and you are done.
